A Magical Life

A Magical Life

Wraith. Ghost, spectral appearance. Person supposed to portend his death.

Doppelgänger. Wraith of a living person. (German: double-goer)

“(Fiction)... moves in the shadow of doubt, knows itself to be a true lie…."
-From “The Broken Estate: Essays on Literature and Belief.” By James Wood

I need:
A competent dopplegänger who is angelic rather than a wraith. Angels. They live forever.

In this life I have magic without ambage. I don’t need to live forever (which sounds horrible), but to live long enough to see my children through. I’m talking through childhood--the dream of an aged grandparent is over. The dream of a long friendship with adult children will never happen. It pains me but I have to have realistic magical hopes. They are stretched enough as is.

I need:
To live long enough to see my children through.
I can pre-parent them. Pack the best of my life into the rest of theirs.

How?              …………………………………………………………..I’m working on it.

(Remember: This is a magical arena and I am the gladiator who will win.)

I see:
Death as gift. As partial, temporary estrangement only.
Souls reincarnate. I will float near their faces be the puffy white cloud of heaven on earth.
Advise them on friends and school
make them learn their manners eat their veggies
teach them how pain will get better and tomorrow is always.

…………………………………………………………………………...Can’t I?
